Study of Asymptotic Normalization Coefficients for alpha clusters

POSTER

Abstract

The asymptotic normalization coefficient (ANC) is an important characteristic of the asymptotic form of the wave function describing the relative motion of the nuclear core and a fragment, in a particular channel. Evaluation of ANCs is central for many useful methods in reaction physics and astrophysics. Unlike some alternatives, ANCs are well defined theoretically and are invariant under finite-range unitary transformations. Single-particle ANCs are well studied and somewhat well understood since they can be easily explored in particle plus potential models. However, ANCs related to clusters are less well understood. In this work we study how to determine ANCs for alpha clusters, we explore the role of Pauli blocking, and we discuss methods of evaluation of ANC's using Harmonic oscillator basis and configuration interaction techniques.
