Applied Nuclear Physics Programs at University Labs
ORAL · Invited
Abstract
Critical research at many of the Association for Research at University Nuclear Accelerators (ARUNA) labs focuses on work outside the traditional scope of nuclear structure and nuclear astrophysics. These so called "applied" programs utilizes the various accelerators, irradiators, and radiation detection methods of nuclear science to foster inter-disciplinary research that tackles a wide range of projects across all scientific fields. Additionally, the on-campus presence of these applied programs are corner stones to the ARUNA educational mission providing students, both undergraduate and graduate, an attractive, hands-on entry point into the world of nuclear science. This talk will highlight some of the exciting research programs at various ARUNA laboratories which use techniques from experimental nuclear science to support the diverse activities going on at their universities and in their communities.
