Probing New Structures in the Deuteron at Short Distances

ORAL

Abstract

We are presenting new results on investigation of deuteron structure at extremely short distances. To avoid the vacuum fluctuatiotions that complicate the observation of genuine deuteron structure in the lab frame we develop theoretical framework for description of the deuteron on the Light Front. The consistent calculation of the deuteron wave function reveals a new structures which are unreachable in the lab frame. We demonstrate that these structures are related to the inelastic transition in the deuteron that can be associated with non-nucleonic or explicit quark degrees of freedom. The relevance of these strucutres for the dynamics of cold dense nuclear matter is discussed.
