2020 Physicists Inspiring the Next Generation: Exploring the Nuclear Matter -- Pre-College Students Perspectives

Abstract

The 2020 ``Physicists Inspiring the Next Generation (PING): Exploring the Nuclear Matter'' was held at the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams/National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory in East Lansing, MI. This Summer program spans for two weeks and included 1 middle school student, 7 high school students and 2 incoming freshmen undergraduate students. Students' projects ranged from basic to applied nuclear science topics, and included: the nuclear shell model, unbound isotopes, python, nuclear chemistry, Geant4 and radiation biology. Students from the PING 2020 Cohort will present results from their research and discuss their experiences in the program.
