Extraction of $a_1$ properties from hadronic tau decays

The axial vector current and its resonance content is a matter of debate. In particular the properties of the $a_1$ meson strongly depend on the model and experiment that is used to analyze tau decay data. We show the impact of physical constraints on these ambiguities using dispersion relations, and both structure functions and total decay rates.
