Simulation and Physics with the FVTX upgrade for PHENIX at RHIC

ORAL

Abstract

The PHENIX detector at RHIC will be upgraded with the Forward Silicon Vertex Detector (FVTX). The FVTX consists of two arms, each with four discs of silicon strip sensors, covering the acceptance of existing muon arm detectors (1.2 $< \quad \vert $y$\vert \quad <$ 2.4). The detector is under construction and will be installed in 2011. The FVTX will greatly enhance the physics capability of PHENIX on forward rapidity. Simulation of the detector performance, the ability of precise heavy quark production measurement, improvement with FVTX for Drell-Yan and W measurements and related physics will be presented.
