Direct Detection of Dark Matter

Abstract
I will review the latest experimental advances in the search for Weakly Interacting Massive Particles (WIMPs) dark matter, focusing particularly on the direct detection approach. Following a very brief discussion on the motivations for this search, I will focus on the principle of WIMP direct detection, its advantages and limitations. The current techniques having achieved the most competitive results in terms of sensitivity will then be discussed. I will conclude with a brief overview of the future of direct detection experiments, the techniques considered and their sensitivity goals.
