Paremeterizing Wave-driven Upper Ocean Dynamics in Ice-Ocean Lead Systems
POSTER
Abstract
Upper ocean mixing in ice-ocean regions is complicated by the presence of heterogeneous surface forcing conditions corresponding to different open and ice-covered oceans. Using large eddy simulations (LES) of idealized sea-ice leads with wind and surface wave forcing, we will develop scalings for mixing and circulation within leads and explore how these results can enhance a novel hybrid mass-flux and higher-order closure that has recently been developed for wind-, wave-, and buoyancy-driven mixing in the open ocean.
