Broadband Wall-less Waveguide for Shallow Water Waves
ORAL
Abstract
We present a broadband waveguide for water waves achieved through manipulation of seabed properties, eliminating the need for sidewalls. Specifically, we demonstrate that a viscoelastic seabed modifies the effective gravity term in the governing equations of water waves, providing a generic broadband mechanism to confine and steer wave gravity energy. This modification allows for the confinement of surface waves within a long, narrow path without sidewalls. Our findings may have applications in guiding and steering waves for oceanic wave energy farms and protecting shorelines.
