Drop impact with melting and/or solidification

Abstract

We investigate experimentally the impact of a drop on cold substrate (metal or ice) as the drop and substrate temperature vary. We analyse in particular the spreading dynamics and the maximum spreading diameter. We develop a model that take into account a composite boundary layer coming from both the viscous effects and the phase change, that we compare with experiments.
