Study of interplay between quasiperiodicity and external driving with ultracold strontium condensate

POSTER

Abstract

We report recent investigations of the interplay between quasiperiodic disorder and external driving in a 1D quasiperiodic cold atom system. Each mechanism independently can drive metal-insulator transitions, but their simultaneous application leads to a rich and nontrivial localization phase diagram and exotic dynamics. We have mapped out phase diagrams under simultaneous quasiperiodicity and external irradiation under different frequency regimes, and coherently controlled the metal-insulator quantum phase transition. We further probe exotic dynamics over a range of parameters that can be theoretically traced back to single-particle multifractality and mixing in the spectrum. Two distinct approaches towards such dynamics are studied: periodic quenching between metal and Anderson insulator phases, and symmetry-breaking from elliptical polarized irradiation in the higher-dimensional space from which the quasiperiodic system is projected.
