Optical control of 88Sr+ ion with a fully integrated photonic laser
ORAL
Abstract
Advances in integrated photonics and on-chip ion trap fabrication are promising for realizing compact transportable trapped-ion optical clocks. We demonstrate optical control of the 2D5/2 to 2P3/2 cleanout transition of a 88Sr+ ion with a 1033 nm vernier ring laser. The laser has a narrow linewidth and a footprint of approximately 1 mm2. With this laser we performed clock state cleanout when operating an optical clock and when ground state cooling a motional mode of the ion. To benchmark the spectral performance of the laser we performed spectroscopy on the 2D5/2 to 2P3/2 transition.
