Exploring quantum mechanical concepts using items from tabletop games
POSTER
Abstract
Given that studying quantum systems is both technically and conceptually challenging, topics and concepts related to quantum information science are usually discussed until students take advanced undergraduate and graduate level classes. However, it is possible to highlight key differences between classical and quantum systems by using items commonly find in tabletop games such as dice and cards. The fact that these items are easily accessible makes the quantum concepts more relatable to younger students and general audiences. We will discuss successful examples of games that are easy to implement at a minimal cost and can motivate the discussion of ideas such as superposition, entanglement and quantum key distribution.
