Considering Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging in DAMOP
ORAL · Invited
Abstract
Since the December 2022 formation of a dedicated DEI committee in the Division of Atomic, Molecular, and Optical Physics, the committee has undertaken a few knowledge gathering activities in order to gain a sense of the culture within the division, and to start taking steps towards improving it where possible. In this talk, I will describe our activities: a short climate survey coinciding with the DAMOP 2023 meeting, a discussion and listening session at DAMOP 2023, and gathering demographic information about division membership, invited speakers, award and fellowship winners within the division over the past five to ten years. I will take this opportunity to share what we heard and have learned from the community, how we have taken steps in response to this information, and make suggestions for the path forward. Additionally, this talk will provide plenty of time for questions, input, and discussion, with the aim of strengthening the sense of belonging, diversity, inclusion, and equity for all participants and members across the division.
