Multi-site Integrated Optical Addressing of Trapped Ions

ORAL

Abstract

Recently, we have demonstrated the simultaneous individual addressing of multiple ytterbium ions in independent potential wells using only on-chip waveguides. In our precisely fabricated ion trap in which three sets of three waveguide-delivered beams intersected, we performed hyperfine spectroscopy and Rabi flopping on the E2 clock transition, consisting of initialization, coherent manipulation, and detection. This requires waveguide-delivered multiple wavelengths ranging from UV (369nm) to NIR (935nm). Our work opens up new possibilities for the realization of scalable integrated photonics for multi-ensemble atomic clocks and trapped-ion quantum information systems.
