Progress towards the measurement of the Cesium electric dipole moment
POSTER
Abstract
We have constructed an apparatus designed to measure the Cesium electric dipole moment (Cs EDM) using cold atoms trapped in optical lattices. A Cs EDM could result from an electron EDM or from P-, T-violating electron-nucleus interactions. Over the past year, we have modified the apparatus to further suppress the noise from the background magnetic fields and the residual ellipticity of the optical lattices. We will first describe our apparatus and our EDM measurement scheme. The sources of the systematic errors will be discussed using our recent measurement of the Cs ground state tensor polarizability, which also provides a way to test third-order atomic calculations closely related to atomic parity violation measurements.
