A Magneto-Optical Trap of Titanium Atoms
ORAL
Abstract
We present the first magneto optical trap (MOT) of atomic titanium, a transition metal element with properties favorable for optical metrology and for realizing spin-orbit coupled phases of quantum matter. Using a Ti sublimation pump as our atomic source, we have successfully trapped and imaged the three bosonic isotopes of Ti at temperatures below 1 mK. We describe our ongoing work to implement a narrow line MOT of Ti, as well as our plans to load optical tweezers of Ti atoms.
