Energy dependent rotations in ATI from xenon with elliptically polarized light

POSTER

Abstract

We present experimental and theoretical results of 3D VMI imaging of photoionization of Xenon with elliptically polarized femtosecond pulses centered of 800 nm in the non-adiabatic regime. Due to an increased resolution compared to prior 3D imaging experiments, we observe a strong energy dependent rotation within each ATI ring, as well as an angular offset between the center of mass of each ATI ring. The inter-ring rotation has been observed previously; however, the rotation within each ring

has not been previously observed experimentally. We compare single ring rotation and the rotation between rings across various ellipticities, with the single ring rotation increasing with ellipticity, and the magnitude of the rotation between rings decreasing. Theoretical calculations are also presented, which show very strong agreement with the experimental results. We find that these rotations can be attributed to the interplay of the laser and long-range Coulomb interactions, as well as the non-adiabatic ionization. Our results may pave the way for better understanding the ionization dynamics of chiral molecules.
