Probing spin correlations and thermalization in a dipolar ensemble

POSTER

Abstract

Motivated by recent efforts to develop quantum platforms with cold atoms featuring dipolar interactions, we theoretically investigate the quantum dynamics of atoms frozen in space and interacting with long-range dipolar interactions. We focus on high-spin systems and analyze the growth of quantum correlations and the relaxation towards thermalization. We analytically find the long-time thermal behaviors as well as study the role of symmetries and long-range interactions. We further compare our results with a recent experiment using a large number of chromium atoms and probe the buildup of quantum correlations.
