Mapping the Milky Way using the final data release of APOGEE
POSTER
Abstract
Mapping properties of the stellar populations across the Milky Way is an effective way of gaining a better understanding of the formation and evolution of the Galaxy. Using the final data release of the SDSS Apache Point Observatory Galactic Evolution Experiment (APOGEE-2) survey, which uses high-resolution stellar spectra in the near-infrared to determine stellar parameters and chemical abundances, we present maps of metallicity and age across the Galaxy, concentrating on the disk. We investigate radial gradients and azimuthal symmetry of mean metallicity and age, as well as the radial dependence of the age and metallicity distribution functions.
