Session 3: Get the Facts Out: Teaching Physics in High School

Panel Description: This is a panelist presentation featuring Dr. Sarah Formica, Bouakham Sriri and Tiffany Taylor. Dr. Formica: ``I am a professor of physics at the University of North Georgia. In addition to teaching physics classes, I do research in PER (Physics Education Research) and I direct our Learning Assistant program. I am passionate about making my classroom inclusive and emphasizing the diversity of who does physics.'' Bouakham Sriri: ``I teach at Duncan Polytechnical High School in Fresno, California.~ This is my 22nd year serving as teacher and educational leader in my community.~ I am passionate about advancing student learning and appreciation of Physics.~ Therefore, I am intentional about lowering students' "Phear of Physics" and teaching growth mindset in the classroom.~ I established the Physics program at Duncan Poly and have diligently worked on expanding it to provide access and equity of Physics education to all students.'' Tiffany Taylor: ``I am a high school teacher in Rogers, Arkansas. Prior to teaching, I coached college softball for nine years before going back to school for a degree in physics. My classroom preparation and passion for physics education began with serving as a Learning Assistant in University Physics labs. I am passionate about the application of physics education research in my classroom and the inclusivity that an active learning classroom can foster.''
