The Higgs Boson: What do we know?

COFFEE_KLATCH · Invited

Abstract

In July 2012, scientists from the ATLAS and CMS experiments at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) announced the discovery of a new particle with properties that are consistent with the Higgs Boson. Since then, both experiments have continued to collect and analyze data with the goal of learning more about this particle. This talk will review the reasons for introducing the Higgs Boson into the Standard Model and will discuss recent results on the Higgs from the LHC. It will also discuss what the newly discovered means to searches for physics beyond the Standard Model.
