Status of Upsilon polarization studies in PbPb collisions with CMS

POSTER

Abstract

Studying polarizations is a valuable tool to obtain information about heavy quarkonia production. The polarization of quarkonium in proton-proton (pp) collisions has been investigated at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), yielding results consistent with null polarization. However, the polarization of quarkonia in lead-lead (PbPb) collisions could be sensitive to quark-gluon plasma. This poster highlights our ongoing efforts to examine the polarization of Upsilon mesons in PbPb collisions using the CMS detector. We focus on studying Upsilon polarization both in the helicity and Collins-Soper frames within the region of dimuon |η| < 2.4 and dimuon pT < 30 GeV.
