The new Electromagnetic Calorimeter at the Jefferson Lab Eta Factory

ORAL

Abstract

The new Electromagnetic Calorimeter (ECal) at the Jefferson Lab Eta Factory represents a significant enhancement to the existing GlueX setup, particularly the Forward Calorimeter (FCAL). In this FCAL upgrade, 400 Pb-glass elements arranged in a $4 \times 4 \times 45~\mathrm{cm}^3$ matrix surrounding the beam-hole have been replaced by 1600 PbWO$_4$ crystals in a $2 \times 2 \times 20~\mathrm{cm}^3$ configuration. This replacement aims to improve the polar angle coverage, resolution, and granularity, specifically below 4$^0$. The upgraded FCAL enables the measurement of rare $\eta^{(')}$ decays and the Compton scattering channel, used to validate the extracted results. This talk will delve into the construction details of ECal and its preparation for the inaugural beam in Fall 2024.
