Are IceCube neutrinos correlated with z ~ 1 galaxies?
ORAL
Abstract
The IceCube neutrino telescope has detected a diffuse astrophysical neutrino flux, but the source of this flux has remained elusive. Using the 10-year IceCube public dataset, we search for correlations between neutrino events and tracers of large-scale structure (LSS). We conduct a combined cross-correlation analysis using several all-sky galaxy catalogs spanning a redshift range of z=0.5 to z=2 and maps of the cosmic infrared background. We detect tantalizing hints of a positive correlation between neutrinos and the tracers of LSS. We additionally fit a simple model to the measured cross-correlations in an attempt to constrain the redshift distribution of possible astrophysical neutrino sources. Our results are potentially an important step towards better understanding the sources of astrophysical neutrinos, and we expect our constraints to improve significantly as the sensitivity of IceCube increases.
