The Facility for Rare Isotope Beams: Technologies and Beam development

ORAL · Invited

Abstract

The Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB) became the world's leading rare isotope user facility upon completion in early 2022. Key technologies developed in the design, construction, and commissioning of the facility include a state-of-the-art superconducting linear accelerator for heavy ions; a high power liquid lithium charge stripper; simultaneous acceleration of multiple charge states; a high-power production target; and a 3-stage fragment separator. This talk will describe the technical development effort which made the FRIB accelerator a reality and the beam development work for delivery of rare isotopes to the first user experiments.
