Strategies for Drafting a Successful Inclusion Plan
ORAL · Invited
Abstract
The requirement for building inclusion plans into grant proposals is becoming more common. NASA’s ATP experiment to require such plans demonstrated that the majority of astronomers are lacking in their understanding of how to approach this requirement. Many were also unable to craft plans in a way that ensured that included themes and activities will be effective for promoting diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI). As part of the US-Extremely Large Telescope’s Research Inclusion Initiative, staff have built a Toolkit of Collaborative Practice as a resource to help investigators better understand how to implement impactful themes to best support DEI principles.
In this talk, I will summarize findings from Sacco and Norman (BAAS 54(1) https://doi.org/10.3847/25c2cfeb.19262acc ) and provide tips and resources for the successful inclusion of more impactful activities into inclusion plans.
