Science goals and current status of the IceCube Upgrade
ORAL
Abstract
The IceCube Upgrade is a dense infill array extension for IceCube and IceCube DeepCore designed to measure atmospheric neutrino oscillation parameters and test PMNS unitarity. Seven additional strings within the existing DeepCore footprint will be lowered into the ice, and contain an array of new photosensors and instruments. The main optical modules for detecting in-ice Cherenkov radiation produced by secondary charged particles following neutrino interaction will have multiple PMTs onboard (mDOM and D-Egg) to better achieve full directional coverage. Full production of the D-Egg has been completed with stable performance observed in low-temperature tests. In addition, new calibration devices and other R&D devices will be deployed and potentially inform the hardware design of IceCube Gen2.
