Search for pair production of excited top quarks in the dileptonic final state in proton-proton collision at 13 TeV
ORAL
Abstract
We discuss cut-based and multivariate analysis techniques for a search for the pair production of excited top quarks T in the decay channel TT->tt->gg. In search of new physics beyond the Standard Model (BSM), the existence of vector-like fermionic top quark partners T is speculated in many theories as an attempt to cancel the quadratic divergences of the top quark loop contributions to the Higgs mass and stabilize the electroweak (EW) scale. The decay of T quark to a top quark and a gluon is dominant due to the strength of the strong coupling. A previous CMS search using the 2016 data have been conducted in the lepton+jets final state. This new search is performed in the dilepton+jets final state using data collected by the CMS experiment at the CERN LHS in 2017-2018, with an integrated luminosity of 101 fb-1. The limit at 95% confidence level (CL) to evaluate the sensitivity at LHC for top partner masses is expected to be in the range of mT<1.4–1.8 TeV.
