The role of academic coaching and mentoring to broaden participation in STEM

ORAL · Invited

Abstract

The recent increase in the representation of US minority undergraduates in physics majors still has not caught up with the national representation of minority students in US population or projected workforce needs. This presentation will discuss the value of academic coaching and peer mentoring as a potential best practice in the retention of underrepresented students in the field of physics. Preliminary data showcased will be drawn from the two years of academic coaching programming by the INSIGHT center facilitated by the Facility for Rare Isotopes Beams.
