What Role Should Scientists Play in Climate Advocacy?
ORAL
Abstract
Scientists are often reluctant to engage in activities that might be perceived as advocacy or politics. In doing so it might be perceived that we are no longer impartial seekers and conveyors of knowledge. But being objective is not the same thing as being indifferent. And surveys show that the majority of people want scientists to be part of the discussion on climate solutions. In my talk I’ll discuss ways that scientists can advocate for solutions in ways that are consisting with our guiding principles.
