Feedback from accreting supermassive black holes in the early Universe
ORAL · Invited
Abstract
Self-regulating "feedback" processes are required to explain many core galaxy properties including their structure, star-formation rate, and metal content. Outflows are a classic example of feedback: by removing gas and metals, they suppress star-formation and black hole growth, and this in turn reduces the strength of subsequent outflows. In this talk I will present a brief overview of feedback processes associated with accreting supermassive black holes. I will particularly focus on the properties of black-hole-driven outflows during the peak epoch of star formation and black hole growth at z~1-3 when feedback was the most active. I will conclude with an outlook towards exciting future advances made possible by new facilities including the James Webb Space Telescope.
