The TOROS project: A status report

We present a status report on the Transient Optical Robotic Observatory of the South project. The TOROS telescope obtained first light on April 7, 2021. Since then successive campaigns have achieved different milestones towards design sensitivity. We describe the first photometric results and discuss the projections for TOROS final sensitivity. We discuss the plans for the immediate future as well as our planned survey strategy and expected capabilities for the LIGO VIRGO KAGRA O4 observational campaign in 2023.
