Low Mass Axion Searches with ADMX

ORAL

Abstract

  1. The Axion Dark Matter eXperiment (ADMX) is a mature axion dark matter detector, with previous, current, and future planned searches targeting the ~0.5 – 4 GHz frequency range. However, axion dark matter is well-motivated in lower mass ranges, with various predictions and models pointing at the region corresponding to photon frequencies in the 100-500 MHz range. We discuss prospects for extending the reach of ADMX into this range, including the cosmological motivations, expected signals, potential resonator designs, and a discussion of available readout technologies. We present the projected reach of such an experiment, assuming different experimental parameters.
