Taylor series derivations of 1-D constant acceleration kinematic equations
POSTER
Abstract
In this poster I present the straightforward but not yet widely known Taylor series derivations of the familiar kinematic equations for uniformly accelerated one-dimensional motion, and provide links to student-accessible video resources for potentially interested instructors. The Taylor series approach provides an opportunity to introduce and discuss the jerk and higher-order kinematic derivatives, which emerge naturally in the course of the x(t) and v(t) derivations and which are important in a wide array of real-world applications.
