Introducing modern physics earlier provides a more accurate, engaging understanding of the universe. Traditional physics often presents a static view, while modern physics, providing the basis for new technologies (smartphones, medical imaging), makes the subject relevant and less abstract. Earlier exposure also enhances student belonging, particularly for underrepresented groups, fostering curiosity and critical thinking, thus cultivating a more diverse STEM pipeline.
Effective implementation of this course requires thoughtful curricular design, which both implements and integrates classical physics. A dedicated modern physics course, ideally following a foundational physics course (e.g., AP Physics 1) would allow for such implementation.
