Designing an Entry Point Quantum Information Course for the Motivated Undergraduate
POSTER
Abstract
Quantum Information Science (QIS) is rapidly evolving, capturing the attention of students from an increasingly large number of backgrounds and calls to develop a quantum workforce need to be answered. In this presentation we discuss our current approach at Brigham Young University: Developing an introductory, yet technical course in QIS intended for all motivated majors. What topics are best suited for this experience? How can we effectively introduce these QIS topics to the student lacking a background in linear algebra? To what extent do we give the participants charge over their own learning? How do we assess the progress of the students against the learning outcomes? How do we measure the success of this course and decide what needs to be improved in the future? We hope to engage with as many of you as possible and look forward to valuable feedback.
