The effect of longitudinal and temporal photons on spacetime-resolved Møller scattering in the Lorentz gauge

ORAL

Abstract

Quantum field theory is currently the best model for predicting phenomena involving subatomic particles like electrons. However, its equations are intractable to solve in their full form, requiring some kind of simplification or approximation to yield useful results. The most successful method thus far for doing this is known as scattering theory. We present findings employing an alternative numerical method, known as Spacetime-Resolved Quantum Field Theory (STRQFT), on the interaction between electrons, aka Møller scattering. We specifically consider the isolated effect of the longitudinal and temporal modes of the photon field on a simplified system involving two electrons. Simulations of the dynamics of this system seem to indicate that the longitudinal and temporal modes by themselves cause the electrons to repel each other.
