Topologically-protected defects in 2D/3D crystals involving higher-dimensional order parameters

Abstract
Magnetic skyrmions are topological structures in crystalline materials in which a continuous magnetic vector field can't be unraveled without introducing discontinuities and which has as conserved topological charge. We are exploring generalizations of the skyrmion concept for higher dimensional order parameters such as those that arise in arbitrary antiferromagnetic or displacive phase transitions.
