Dozens of black hole mergers have now been detected by LIGO, but what’s it all good for? In this talk I demonstrate how we can use the enormous energy of the black hole mergers to ”illuminate” the universe. Just as dolphins, daredevils, and bats can learn about their surroundings through echo-location so too can we learn about the nature of the quantum entanglement from which our classical view of spacetime emerges.
